July is National UV Safety Month.

By protecting your skin you are preventing the risk of skin cancer, and keeping your skin looking younger and healthier longer.  One way to practice safe sun is to wear sunscreen. The vast amount of brands and numbers of SPF can be intimidating to the user. How do you know which one is right for you? Here are some ways to pick the right kind and how to apply it!

  • Only use sunscreen that offers Broad-spectrum coverage (label may say “broad spectrum,” “protects against UVA/UVB” or “UVA/UVB protection”).
  • SPF 30 or higher
  • Water resistant

    Practice Safe Sun!

Other tips for the AAD include:

  • re-apply sunscreen every two hours when outdoors
  • find shade whenever your shadow appears to be shorter than you are
  • wear protective clothing including long sleeves, pants, wide-brimmed hat and sunglasses.
