Fourteen health insurers in Michigan have submitted applications to participate in the federal health insurance exchange marketplace for individual and small group markets beginning October 1, 2013.
The Department of Insurance and Financial Services (DIFS) is reviewing all plans to make sure they comply with the state insurance regulations and the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act before submitting the plans to the feds for review by July 31. Even though the ball is rolling, individuals and small businesses won’t know what the premiums are for these policies until open enrollment on the exchanges opens October 1st.
Michigan will offer two exchanges, individual and SHOP, in which customers can select between four tiers of plans: Platinum, Gold, Silver and Bronze.
