Austin Benefits Group Awarded as One of Michigan’s 2018 Best & Brightest in Wellness®
The Best & Brightest in Wellness award recognizes quality and excellence in health awareness. Employers, wellness providers, schools, faith-based groups and non-profits that are highlighted promote a culture of wellness, making their business and community a healthier place to live and work.
Congratulations to all the winners this year, they are all truly exemplary companies to work for (and with!) in Michigan. See the complete list here.
The Austin team has really stepped it up this year to improve our overall wellness as the health of our employees is a top priority. Check out examples of our internal wellness initiatives below.
New in 2018: Free Convertible Standing Desk & Anti-fatigue Mat Reimbursement
We’ve recently welcomed several new Vari-Desk convertible standing desks to our office and they have been a big hit across all of our departments. Convertible desk units are provided at no cost to employees who request to participate.
President & CEO, Dean Austin, has also provided reimbursements for employees who order their own anti-fatigue mats to complete their ideal standing work set-up.
New in 2018: Fresh Fruit Monday
Fresh Fruit has moved from Friday to Monday at the Austin office to start our week off right. A new variety is brought in each week for all employees to enjoy at their leisure.
Want to incorporate this simple initiative at your office? Get our free fresh fruit and superfood posters to spice up your display.
New in 2018: Fun Friday & Fitness Challenge
Fridays are for fun with the Austin team. A spin-off from our Monthly Bad Ass Friday competition includes a dress-up theme and a fitness challenge. Fitness challenges have included push-ups, wall-sits and most recently, planks!
New in 2018: Walking Club
Many of our employees have been walking the parking lot to get their daily steps on their own, so we made it official! The Austin team now has a dedicated Walking Club which meets daily (weather permitting) at noon.
A walking club is a wonderful way to encourage your employees to increase their physical activity (and relieve stress) during the workday. Promote the start of your walking club with our Step Challenge Timeline & Checklist.
Summer 5K & Austin Gives Back: HUB Ben Snyder Memorial 5K
We incorporate both wellness and community involvement with our annual participation and sponsorship of the HUB 5K. This run/walk is a favorite of our employees since it supports local children in their education goals. We also love taking in the beautiful grounds at Cranbrook, just down Woodward Ave from our office. All participants can stop by our table at the event for a pre/post run snack and water bottles.
Smoking Cessation Program & Rewards
Austin offers a smoking cessation program with rewards for employees who complete certain activities. We also provide further encouragement to quit by offering our highest contribution towards healthcare premiums for those who are non-smokers.

“Fight the Flu” Flu-Shot Clinic
Every fall the Austin team has the option to participate in our flu-shot clinic at no-cost (with their medical insurance). We work with a local partner, Michigan VNA, to host the flu clinic right in our office. We invite both employees and their families to attend.
