Viagra Nonformulary Drug for HAP Customers as of March 1, 2013

/, Human Resources - News & Compliance/Viagra Nonformulary Drug for HAP Customers as of March 1, 2013

Effective March 1, 2013, HAP will remove Viagra® from its drug formulary and replace it with the lower cost generic version of the drug, Sildenafil. This means that HAP will no longer cover Viagra®.

The decision to remove Viagra® from HAP formulary was determined by HAP Ambulatory Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee of physicians, nurses and pharmacists who reviewed evidence support safe and effective conversion of Viagra® to generic Sildenafil.

Sildenfail is made by the same manufacturer and contains the same ingredients as Viagra®. HAP members will see lower out-of-pocket costs by switching to Sildenafil. The current costs for these drugs are $22.49 for one brand name Viagra® pill vs. $1 for one generic Sildenfail.

Remember that generic drugs are FDA approved and have similar effectiveness and safety as brand name drugs.
