In a survey by The National Business Group on Health titled “Perceptions of Health Benefits in a Recovering Economy: A Survey of Employees,”ย 87% of employees rated health benefits as very important when looking for a new job or when staying at a current one. In addition to that, 78% said the retirement packages were very important as well, which has increased 15% since 2007.
These statistics confirm that health benefits are a large part of recruiting and retaining top talent.
Wellness programs are an increasing trend in employee benefit packages. 77% of those polled said that they expect their employer to offer such benefits. As part of these programs, 39% said biometric screenings were important, 31% said exercise programs offered, and another 31% said onsite fitness centers were important to them and their health.
When asked how much money they thought their employers spend on their health care most employees were off by $3,000. This may indicate to some employers that employees do not see the value in their benefits package, and the National Business Group on Health recommends giving employees a “total rewards summary”ย of their benefits so they can see how much value the company put into their staffs benefits.
