Find some friends and hit the court!

With summer in full swing, there are many different activities that you can do outside by yourself or with a group.  One sport that is not only fun with a group of friends but a great workout, is volleyball.

Volleyball helps:

  • Burn calories and help prevent obesity
  • Improve heart health, energy and stamina
  • Tone muscles
  • Can treat and prevent some psychiatric diseases

Volleyball is great for building muscle and strengthening joints. While playing, you use your ankles, hips and knees for jumping and moving around the court. You also use your elbows, shoulders and wrists for serving, passing and spiking the ball. All of this physical exercise not only improves your physical health, but also prevents injuries by targeting and strengthening certain muscles and joints.

Grab a ball, a group of friends or coworkers, and head to your local park or school. And if you don’t find one nearby with a court, head to the store and buy a cheap net to set up in your backyard. Make a day out of it by hosting a tournament or incorporate it into your workplace health and wellness initiative!
